9 tips bij het fotografie van producten

Naast food fotografie fotografeer ik ook producten en interieur.
Bij het fotograferen van producten draait het niet om het eten wat op het bord ligt maar  gaat het om het product.
Hieronder een aantal tips bij het fotograferen van producten. Dit kan keramiek zijn maar ook handgemaakte producten zoals armbanden, producten voor in je webshop zoals notitieboekjes, ansichtkaarten of linnen producten.

When you’re shooting products like plates it’s important to think of the product, not the food has to be the hero.
Here are some tips when you’reshooting products. This can be ceramics but also handmade products such as bracelets, products for in your webshop as notebooks, postcards or linen products.

9 Tips bij het fotograferen van producten

1. Blijf in dezelfde sfeer
Voor Bamkeramiek.nl heb ik deze mooie Toren serie fotograferen. Ik heb vooral gekeken naar wat het product uitstraalt: minimalistisch, strak, eenvoud, puur. Daarom heb ik voor deze houten ondergrond gekozen. Fris en eenvoudig.

2. Props ondersteunen de hero
Laat de props niet van je onderwerp afleiden. Zowel bij food fotografie als bij product fotografie ondersteunen de props je “hero”.
Ik heb hier minimale props gekozen. Subtiel een takje munt, wel een doek gebruikt maar dan van linnen met een rafelrandje.

9 Tips when shooting products

1. Stay in the same atmosphere
For Bamkeramiek.nl I photographed this beautiful Tower series. I mainly looked at what the product emits: minimalist, sleek, simplicity, pure. That is why I have chosen for this wooden surface. Fresh and simple.

2. Support the hero with the props
Let the props do not distract from your subject. Both at food photography as in product photography support the props the “hero”.
I have chosen minimal props. Subtle a sprig of mint, a cloth used but then of linen with a ravel edge.

3. Maak een compositie

Bij een sfeerbeeld kun je een compositie kiezen. Bij bovenstaande heb ik de diagonaal gekozen en de bordjes staan niet symmetrisch. Juist een tikkie net anders.

In an atmosphere you can choose a composition. Above I used the diagonal and the signs are not symmetrical. Just a little bit different.

4. Laat de kleur terugkomen

Deze prachtige borden, gemaakt door Lizannevanzanten.nl, hebben verschillende kleuren glazuur. Ik heb de kleur groen terug laten komen in het servet zodat ze met elkaar worden verbonden.

4. Let the color come back

This beautiful plates, made by Lizannevanzanten.nl, have different colors of glaze. I have the color green back in the napkin so they are connected.

5. Laat zien waar het product voor is bedoeld.

Bij onderstaande heb ik een setting gecreëerd waarbij je kunt zien hoe je het product kunt gebruiken. Heel logisch, een stuk fruit schillen op een bord.
Bij een ansichtkaart kun je bijvoorbeeld een pen neerleggen met postzegels. Probeer een situatie na te doen hoe deze in het echt is.

5. Show it where the product is intended

At below I have created a setting where you can see how you can use the product. Very logical, a piece of fruit peel on a plate.
At a postcard you can, for example, put a pen down with stamps. Try to do this in a situation  how it really is.

6. Probeer vanuit verschillende hoeken te fotograferen

Loop eens om je product heen met je fototoestel en maak foto’s vanuit verschillende standpunten. Dus niet alleen recht van voren, 45 graden of een flatlay foto (van bovenaf).

6. Try from different angles to photograph

Walk around your product with your camera and take photos from different points of view. So not only right from the front, 45 degrees or a flatlay photo (from above).

7. Foto’s in de breedte

Vergeet ook niet om horizontale foto’s te maken. Soms heb je deze nodig in de header van je website of op Facebook.

Also don’t forget to take horizontal shots. Sometimes you need it in the header of your website or on Facebook.

8. Speel met het licht
Dit keramieken setje heb ik voor CharlyBushoff gefotografeert.
Hierbij heb ik het gerecht niet de hero laten spelen maar draagt het eten bij aan het verhaal. Zie dat onderstaande foto en bovenstaande foto zeer met elkaar verschillen? Dit komt door het licht.
Onderstaande foto is bijna een beetje dark, moody achtig. Maar ik vind het prachtig; je oog trekt gelijk naar het product waar het licht opvalt.

8. Play with the light

The food do not play the hero but the product. See that picture below and above are very different from each other? This is due to the light.
The picture below is almost a little dark, moody. But I find it beautifully; it draws your eye directly to the product where the light stands out.

9. Maak vierkante foto’s

Vergeet niet om vierkante foto’s te maken voor Instagram. Voor een verticale foto (ofwel een portret foto)heb je veel meer ruimte voor een compositie. Bij een vierkante foto gaat 1/3 eraf.

9. Make square photos

Remember to take pictures for instagram in square. For a vertical photo (either a portrait photo) you have a lot more room for a composition. At a square Photo 1/3 goes off it.
